Round One
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Competing as an individual, Davidson's Christopher Rollins fired a five-under 67 to sit tied for first, but the Wildcats carded a 310 to find themselves in 14th after the opening round of the second annual Palisades Collegiate Classic Monday. The 54-hole event co-hosted by Davidson and Charlotte is being played on the 6,797-yard par 72 Palisades Country Club layout.
A freshman from White Plains, N.Y., and product of Heritage Academy on Hilton Head Island, Rollins is tied atop the individual leaderboard with Tyler Tucker of USC Upstate. Despite recording the lowest round by a Davidson player since Tim Dillon shot 66 (-6) at the Xavier Invitational in the fall of 2005, Rollins' personal best doesn't count towards the team total.
Ryan Crum led the Wildcat team scores with a 74 (T-38th) after shooting a two-under 34 on his inward nine. Other Davidson competitors include David Fowler (77/T-57th), Bobby Urso (79/T-70), Michael Saari (80/T-73rd) and Robert Mayo (82/T-76th).
The nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers lead the team standings following a nine-under 279, which is just one shot better than that of USC Upstate. Charlotte's Corey Nagy and Andrew DiBietto were among five players to post four-under 68 during the morning session.
UNC Greensboro and Xavier are tied for third at 288, while Augusta State is 11 shots off the pace in fifth place.
The second round is currently underway. Third and final round play will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
