DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Fresh off being named to the media first team all-conference and awarded the Southern Conference Player of the Week on Monday, junior Mercedes Robinson (Baltimore, Md.) added yet another honor after her outstanding third year for Davidson with a spot on the 10-member Coaches All-SoCon team as announced by the league office on Wednesday, Mar. 5.
The junior becomes the fourth straight Wildcat to earn a spot on the coaches' team after senior Katie Hamilton (Lilburn, Ga.), Janell Crayton and Jessica Mitchell were named to the team the past two seasons.
Robinson, averaging team bests of 12.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest, dominated down low for the Wildcats this year. The junior has a league-leading 14 double doubles and recorded 11 of them against SoCon opponents. She closed out the regular season with back-to-back double doubles in wins over Georgia Southern and College of Charleston to earn player of the week honors.
She ranks among the top-five players in the SoCon in points (3rd), rebounds (3rd) and field goal percentage (2nd/53.1). During the Wildcats' 18-game conference schedule, the forward averaged nearly 14 points and nine rebounds against league opponents, while draining 55.6 percent of her field goals, including 45.2 percent from downtown.
Robinson has led the team 11 times combined in both scoring and rebounding this season, while hitting the double-digit mark in points a team-high 17 times. She has scored in double figures in 10 of the past 13 contests, hitting the 20-point plateau twice, while recording eight double doubles during that stretch.
Like the All-SoCon media team, Chattanooga again earned the Player of the Year (Alex Anderson) and Coach of the Year (Wes Moore), while Wofford's Mahagony Williams was also again honored as the Freshman of the Year.
The coaches also gave out a Defensive Player of the Year award, which went to Western Carolina's Chevon Keith, and awarded Elon's Kitrara McMoore with the Ann Lashley Inspiration Award for showing outstanding courage or service. McMoore has overcome six knee surgeries during her time at Elon to become a consistent scoring and rebounding force.
Davidson, who earned the No. 3 seed for the upcoming SoCon tournament this weekend, will play No. 6 seeded Elon on Saturday, Mar. 8, at approximately 11:30 a.m. The Wildcats (19-10, 13-5 SoCon) swept the two-game season series vs. the Phoenix (11-19, 6-12 SoCon) and have won nine straight in the all-time series.
