'Cats Can't Comeback, Drop 13-4 Decision to Charleston

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The College of Charleston Cougars outlasted the Davidson Wildcats for a second straight Southern Conference baseball win, a 13-4 triumph on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field in the second game of the three-game series.
Davidson (7-10, 0-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within striking distance, 7-4, but Charleston (15-7, 2-0) added six runs over the last two innings to prevent the comeback.
Cougar left fielder Michael Harrington (4-for-5, 5 RBI) and first baseman Joash Brodin (4-for-6, RBI) led the Charleston offense, which collected 18 hits. Catcher Austin Morgan also had a big day at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI.
For the Wildcats, right fielder Chase Fitzpatrick proved a solid cleanup hitter, going 2-for-4 with a home run to lead the Davidson offense. Second baseman Danny Weiss (2-for-4) also had a pair of hits for the 'Cats, including a base hit in Davidson's three-run sixth. Chris Fitzpatrick's (1-for-4, 2 RBI) bases-clearing double in the inning scored both first baseman Jay Honeycutt (walk) and Weiss.
Austin Garrett (4-0) kept his perfect record in tact, picking up the win after allowing four runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. Mike Lynn earned his third save of the season, allowing just two hits over the final 3 1/3.
For the 'Cats, starter Zac Long (1-2) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in five innings.
Charleston and Davidson will play the final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Wilson Field.
