DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off two straight-set Southern Conference singles wins over the weekend to push her team-best winning streak to nine in a row, senior Meredith Skeeters (Greensboro, N.C.) was honored as the league's Player of the Week in women's tennis on Tuesday, Mar. 18.
The senior helped the Wildcats earn two SoCon wins over the weekend when Davidson swept both Appalachian State and Western Carolina by the scores of 7-0 to push its record to 10-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in league matches.
Skeeters started last weekend off with 6-2, 6-3 win over Elizabeth Holland of App. State at No. 5 to improve her singles mark to 8-1. With the win at No. 5, she also remained unbeaten at that position with a 3-0 mark, including a 2-0 record in SoCon matches.
To close out the winning weekend, Skeeters moved down one spot to No. 6 against Western Carolina at home and did not miss a beat. She allowed just one game to Emily Turke in taking a 6-1, 6-0 decision for her ninth straight singles win and third straight in league action. The senior also ran her No. 6 singles record to 4-1.
During her nine-match win streak, Skeeters has won five of the matches at home where Davidson is a perfect 7-0.
The Wildcats take to the road for their next five matches starting with a match against cross-county rival Charlotte on Wednesday, Mar. 19 at 2 p.m.
