DAVIDSON, N.C. — Women's cross country standout Caroline Sanker is one of 91 female student-athletes representing 62 Division I institutions named to the 2007 U.S.Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team, and the 2007 Wildcat cross country squad was named an All-Academic Team.
Sanker finished second and earned All-SoCon honors to lead the Wildcat women to a runner-up finish at the 2007 SoCon championships and finished 24th in a time of 21:20.90 at the NCAA Louisville Regional to become Davidson's first all-region cross country athlete. In her impressive season, the junior from Rocky River, Ohio, set a new school 5K record (a time of 17:05.00 at the Tiger Invitational), earned three weekly SoCon honors and was named September SoCon Runner of the Month. In the classroom, Sanker carries a 3.83 grade point average.
The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have completed a minimum 24 semester hours through the 2007 fall term. Additionally, the student-athlete must finish in the top 15 runners or top ten percent of finishers at their respective NCAA regional meet or receive All-American honors.
As a team, the Wildcat women were one of 159 teams honored an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. With a team grade point average of 3.46, the team ranked 52nd of the 159 honored teams.
“I am extremely proud of Caroline and for our team!” Davidson head coach Jen Straub said. “She worked very hard and put together a great season, so this is a great honor for her! I am very proud of the girls for working hard this season on the trails and in the classroom!”
