
Robinson Tallies Wildcats First SoCon Player of Week in W. Basketball

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- After leading the Davidson women's basketball team to a 2-0 week by recording back-to-back double doubles, junior Mercedes Robinson (Baltimore, Md.) was honored as the Southern Conference Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 12-19.
The honor is the first of the season for Davidson, who improved to 16-9 overall and 10-4 in SoCon action with wins over UNC Greensboro (76-50) on Feb. 15 and Elon (68-54) on Feb. 18. With the two wins, the Wildcats ran their winning streak to three straight and have won eight of their past 10 games.
For the week, Robinson put up averages of 18.5 points per game and an even 11 rebounds per contest. In addition to those numbers, she also dished out a total of 10 assists, including a personal-best six against Elon, and averaged 2.5 steals a game.
Robinson shot a team-best 56 percent (14-of-25) from the field, one of five Wildcats to shot over 50 percent during the week, and hit seven of her nine free throws.
Robinson started the week with her 10th double-double of the year in leading Davidson to its biggest win of the season, a 26-point victory against UNC Greensboro. She hit the 20-point mark for the second time in her career in leading three 'Cats in double figures. Robinson hauled in 11 boards, while dishing out four assists and pocketing a couple of steals.
Then to finish out the week, the junior forward recorded a 17-point and 11-rebound effort in assisting the Wildcats to their ninth straight win against Elon on Monday, Feb. 18. She was 7-of-13 from the field, including a three-ball, and hit both of her free throws. Robinson dished out a career-best six dimes, while pocketing three of Davidson's nine steals.
Robinson's junior campaign has been a career year. She is averaging career highs in points (12.2 – 4th in SoCon), rebounds (8.3 – 3rd in SoCon) and field goal percentage (52.7 – 3rd in SoCon). She has also surpassed her career highs in steals (46), assists (35) and blocks (11).
Her 11 double doubles lead the SoCon this year and gives her 14 for her career. Four times this season Robinson has recorded back-to-back double doubles, and three different times she has turned the feat in three consecutive games.
Davidson hits the road for its next three contests, first traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford this Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
