DAVIDSON, N.C. – In its second match in as many days, the Davidson men's tennis team rebounded from a loss to South Carolina a day earlier to take a 5-2 win over visiting Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon in the Knobloch Tennis Center.

Davidson ran its overall record to 3-2 and improved to a perfect 3-0 at home. GWU remained winless at 0-4 to start the 2008 campaign.

The Wildcats regrouped after a tough 6-1 setback to No. 58 South Carolina on Saturday by starting the match on Sunday with a clean sweep in doubles play to take a 1-0 lead in team points. It marked the first time this year Davidson earned wins in all three doubles matches.

Junior Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) then led the Wildcats in singles play by taking four of the six matches to take home the victory. Myers continued his winning ways in the early going of his junior year by running his singles win streak to four straight with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot.

Davidson and the Bulldogs split two three-setters with freshman Walker Lyon (Wallingford, Pa.) picking up the three-set win for the 'Cats. His match saw him twice to go a tie-breaker as he defeated Grant Van Rensburg, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. The win improved the freshman's first year singles record to 3-2.

Also getting back on the winning track was the sophomore duo of Sam Burns (Banner Elk, N.C.) and Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.). With a two-set win over Rafael Atmayer, Burns earned his second singles win of the season. Noble and Lyons both formed the No. 3 doubles team and earned an 8-2 win.

Noble scored his first singles win of the season by earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Carlos Quljano at No. 3 singles. He also teamed with senior Phillip Compeau (Wilkesboro, N.C.) to capture one of the three Wildcat doubles wins.

Despite falling in both of their singles matches, the duo of senior Flaviu Simihaian (Nasaud, Romania) and junior Ethan Jaffee (Indianapolis, Ind.) did earn a win together at the No. 1 doubles spot, taking home an 8-4 victory over Evgeny Slesarev and Andrew Veeder.

Davidson is next in action when it plays host to Presbyterian on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 1:30 p.m.
