DAVIDSON, N.C. — After setting a pair of school records and swimming on three record-setting relays to help the Wildcats to a third place finish at the Nike Invitational this weekend, Davidson junior Nate Ladner has been selected as the CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week, for meets competed Dec. 1-7, announced today by the league office.
Ladner became the first Davidson Wildcat to break the 21-second barrier, swimming a CCSA-best time this season of 20.96 in the prelims of the 50 free before finishing sixth in the evening session with a time of 21.05. Fiete Stegger held the previous Davidson record with a time of 21.10 from last season's CCSA Championships.
The breaststroker also set a Davidson record in the 100 breast with a CCSA-best time of 56.13, finishing third in the super final, bettering the mark of 56.21 dating back to Feb. 17, 1995.
Ladner also set a pool record with a time of 1:52.81, the second best time in the CCSA this season, in the prelims of the 200 IM and finished with a runner-up time of 1:52.39 in the final.
Ladner also swam on three school-record breaking relays, the 800 free, the 200 free and the 400 medley relays. The men's 800 freestyle relay team swam a school-best, fourth-place time of 6:47.69. Andrew Carlson, Curtis Chaney, Merritt Peele and Ladner contributed to the relay, which shattered the mark of 6:53.94 dating back to the 2005 season.
The relay team of Geoffrey Peitz, Brad Carman, Miguel Rodriguez and Ladner finished fifth in the 400 medley with a school-record time of 3:24.62, better than the previous time of 3:24.81 from the 2008 CCSA's.
And finally, in the 200 free, Bryan Droll, Carlson, Ladner, and Rodriguez turned in a third-place time of 1:23.10 for an all-time best in the 200 free relay, beating the time of 1:24.07 from last season's Championships.
It is the second weekly honor for Ladner, who also took Swimmer of the Week honors after winning four events to help the men's team toa 164-123 victory over the defending CCSA champion College of Charleston Cougars on Oct. 25.
