Ream Rewrites Record as Wildcats Open Competition at Nike Invitational

GAMBIER, OHIO -- Senior Alanna Ream finished third and rewrote her own school record in the 1650 free as the Davidson Wildcat swimming and diving team opened competition at the Nike Invitational at Kenyon College Thursday evening.
Ream finished third with a program-best time of 17:03.81, bettering her own previous time of 17:08.63 from the CCSA championships last season.
The men's 800 freestyle relay team also rewrote a Davidson record with a fourth-place time of 6:47.69. Andrew Carlson, Curtis Chaney, Nate Ladner and Merritt Peele contributed to the relay, which shattered the mark of 6:53.94 dating back to the 2005 season.
Senior Merritt Peele finished 11th in the 1650 free with a time of 16:19.97.
The women's team of Anna Stringfield, Lindsey Martin, Courtney Sanders and Jessica Delgehausen finished fifth in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:37.08.
The women's team stands tied for third place with host Kenyon with 67 points, behind the University of Pennsylvania (131) and Colgate (73). Kansas, Carnegie Melon and John Hopkins are also competing on the women's side.
The men's team is in fifth place with 41 points, behind Pennsylvania (143), Kenyon (97), Carnegie Melon (82) and Colgate (50). John Hopkins is also competing.
Competition will resume tomorrow morning with prelims at 9:30 a.m.
