Records Fall in Second Day of Competition at Davidson Invite

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- On the second day of competition at the Davidson Invitational, sophomore Lindsey Martin and freshman Geoffrey Peitz each set a school record and several meet records fell.
Martin broke her own school record in the 200 free with a first-place time of 1:52.89, and Peitz set a new school and meet record in the 200 fly with a runner-up time of 1:53.20.
Martin first set the record at last season's CCSAs with a time of 1:52.92. Charlie Hunter held the previous all-time best of 1:53.55 in the 200 fly from 2001.
The women's team also set a pair of Davidson Invitational records, beginning with the 200 free relay team of Martin, freshman Casey Van Tassell, senior Courtney Sanders and sophomore #Emily Castle, who finished first with a new meet-record time of 1:36.35. Davidson held the previous record of 1:37.12, set last season. Sophomore Anna Stringfield won the 400 IM and set a new meet record with a time of 4:30.85, breaking the previous best of 4:30.85 set by Gardner Webb's Taylor Simpson in 2004.
The men's 200 freestyle relay also set a Davidson Invite record as senior Merritt Peele, junior Nate Ladner, sophomore Bryan Droll and senior Miguel Rodriguez turned in a second-place time of 1:25.77.
Freshman Lauren Kamperman swam onto the Davidson Top 10 performer lists in both the 400 IM (6th) and the 200 fly (9th), while Van Tassell did the same in the 50 free (9th). Martin's times in the 100 back (6th) and 200 free (1st) moved her up the lists as well. All three performances were also lifetime best times, along with Castle (100 back), sophomore Jessica Delgehausen (100 back) and freshman Juliana Porter (100 back) had all-time best times, too.
On the men's side, Peitz's times in the 200 fly (1st) and 100 back (4th) were Davidson Top 10 performances. Freshman Joe Burquist (10th, 200 fly), Brian Seo (400 IM, 7th) and Chaney (200 free, 2nd) also had Top 10 performances. Peitz, Chaney and Seo also had lifetime-best times, and Ladner (50 free), freshman David Kerman (400 IM), sophomore Ben Lucas (400 IM), Droll (50 free, 100 breast), senior Andrew Carlson (50 free) and sophomore Patrick Whitman (100 breast) did the same.
