
'Cats Host Nine-Team Field for Davidson Invitational

DAVIDSON, N.C. — In their final home meet of the calendar year, the Davidson Wildcat men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host a nine-team field at the Davidson College Invitational at the Cannon Natatorium this weekend.
The Wildcats will host Campbell, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Limestone, North Carolina A&T, Old Dominion, Radford and North Florida in this year's competition at Cannon. Each team except Radford will be competing on the women's side, while the Wildcat men will battle Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Limestone and Old Dominion.
Davidson divers will compete against Georgia Southern, Limestone, Old Dominion, Radford and North Florida at the Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatic Center.
The Wildcat men enter the weekend with a dual-meet record of 1-4, having defeated CCSA-foe the College of Charleston 164-123 on Oct. 25. The Wildcat men have losses at Clemson, East Carolina and William & Mary as well as against Emory in Davidson. The Wildcats finished fourth at last year's Invite, behind Old Dominion, Charleston and Gardner-Webb. Freshman Geoffrey Peitz is a swimmer to watch on the men's side, having won CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week after winning a pair of events against Emory. Classmate Ben Lane is having an outstanding rookie season thus far, being named CCSA Men's Diver of the Week twice already and breaking the school's record on the 3-meter with a score of 315.30 against Emory.
The Wildcat women are 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the CCSA, with wins over N.C. A&T and the College of Charleston. Davidson lost dual meets at Clemson, East Carolina and William & Mary and in Davidson against Emory. Last season, the Wildcat women finished third at the Invite, behind Gardner-Webb and Old Dominion. For the Wildcat women, sophomores Anna Stringfield and Lindsey Martin continue to impress. Stringfield was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week after an impressive weekend of performances against N.C. A&T and Charleston. Linnea Buttermore has been named Women's Diver of the Week twice, for her contributions at William & Mary and against Emory.
Davidson will travel to the Nike Invitational at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, Dec. 4-6 for their final competition before the winter break.
