SAVANNAH, Ga. - Freshman Jackson Taylor fired a second-round 71 to jump into a tie for seventh place after 36 holes of the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate, helping pace Davidson to a tie for tenth place as a team at the end of play on Monday at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.
Taylor closed out the first round of action with a back-nine 34 to enter into the second round in a 12th-place tie among individuals. The Wilmington, N.C. native then shot a career-best tying 71 on the second 18 holes to go into the final round at an even-par 144, to lead all Wildcat golfers.
Davidson's second-round 305 was one stroke higher than their opening 304, giving them a total two-round team score of 609, tying them with fellow Southern Conference member Elon to close out the top ten team standings.
Rounding out the Davidson contingent is Adam Lewicki, who fired a 74 to open the tournament and closed the day in a tie for 29th with a score of 151. Bobby Urso and Christopher Rollins both shot a score of 157 to tie for 56th position, with Ryan Crum's 168 good for 75th.
Tournament host and SoCon member Georgia Southern leads all teams with a two-round score of 570, good for six-under par. Furman's one-under 575 puts them in the runner-up position going into the final round, with seventh-place Western Carolina completing the SoCon-heavy top ten standings.
Georgia Southern has the top two individual players so far in the tournament, led by Logan Blondell, who had an opening-round 67 to give him a five-under par 139 and a three-shot lead over teammate Spencer Fulford's two-under 142.
Competition will conclude on Tuesday when the teams all take the course for one final 18-hole round, with the first competitors teeing off early in the morning. Stay tuned to DavidsonWildcats.com for updates and scores from Savannah.
