DAVIDSON, N.C. — Partnering with more than 200 colleges and high schools across the country, the Davidson Wildcat volleyball team will participate in the sixth annual Dig for the Cure, when the 'Cats host the College of Charleston Nov. 7 at Belk Arena.
Davidson volleyball players and staff will be soliciting pledges, either per dig or in a flat donation prior to the Nov. 7 match, and there will be an opportunity to donate that evening as well. All donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation, which raises money for breast cancer research.
“I cannot put into words as to how important it is to support this event and to aide in the fight against breast cancer,” head coach Tim Cowie said.
Dig for the Cure was founded by former Davidson Volleyball coach Lisa Marston, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor. Marston started the event in 2003 with the goal of combining her program's community service efforts towards the worthy and personal fight against breast cancer. This year, the event's nation-wide goal is $375,000.
“Lisa Marston remains a strong supporter of our program,” Cowie said. “I think it is important that we do everything possible to support such a worthy program that is so near and dear to her.”
