
Men’s Soccer to Face Off Against Elon in Wednesday Night SoCon Matchup

DAVIDSON, N.C. – After a pair of conference matches on the road, the Davidson men's soccer team will come back to Alumni Stadium to continue their Southern Conference schedule in a mid-week contest against Elon, scheduled for 7 p.m.

Scouting the Wildcats: In their last home match, Davidson picked up their first SoCon win with a 1-0 shut-out of UNC Greensboro. They then dropped a pair of tough away contests to come into Wednesday night with a 2-9-1 record, and 1-2 in the conference. Junior forward and SoCon Player of the Week candidate Machel Turner had a goal in the team's last match against Furman to add to his team-leading three goals on the year. Turner also leads the 'Cats with seven points, followed by sophomore Alex Caskey's six points off of two goals and two assists this season. Goalkeeper Robby Goldsberry is second in the SoCon with 34 saves in nine matches, for a save percentage of .680. Matt McElroy has seven appearances between the pipes, with 17 saves and helped shut out UNCG.
Scouting the Phoenix: Elon is currently sitting at the top of the SoCon standings coming into Wednesday's match, with a 4-0 record in conference play, and are 5-7-1 overall on the season. They are riding a three-match winning streak, including a pair of one-goal victories over College of Charleston and Appalachian State in their last two contests. The Phoenix are led by junior midfielder Justin Wyatt, is the reigning SoCon Player of the Week following a pair of game-winning goals this past week. He is tops on the squad with seven goals on the season, to go along with three assists for a team-high 17 points overall, which have come on conference-leading 38 shots. Kyle Boerner has made ten appearances in goal for the Phoenix, and sports a 4-6 record with 32 saves and a 1.43 goals-against-average.
The Series: This will be the sixth meeting all-time between these two SoCon foes, with Elon holding a 3-2 advantage in the series. Davidson took home victories the first two contests with Elon, but the Phoenix have won three in a row, including last season's 2-0 win at Elon.

Then on Friday, Oct. 24, regional rival Presbyterian will make a visit to Alumni Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
