Burns' Win in the 3,000 Highlights Action at Patriot Games

FAIRFAX, Va. – Senior Brenna Burns finished first in the 3,000 meters, highlighting the Wildcat women's appearance at the Patriot Games on the campus of George Mason Saturday afternoon.
Burns bested the strong field, which included Navy, Richmond and American, with a conference-leading time of 9:55.72, while junior Caroline Sanker finished third in the event with a time of 10:12.68.
"Brenna was great today!" head coach Jen Straub said. "She turned in a great time at this time in the season, and Caroline was right behind her! I am very proud of the way the entire team competed today!"
Turning in another solid distance performance, senior Megal Atias finished fifth in the mile with a time of 5:19.48.
Senior Amaka Obidegwu also turned in a top-10 finish for the Wildcat women, finishing ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.87. Obidegwu also had the team's top time in the 200 meters with a time of 27.53 (19th).
The Wildcats will return to action next weekend, when they travel to the University of North Carolina for the Carolina Classic on Fri., Feb.
