Swimming Opens Second Half of Season, Hosts Blue Devils and Gamecocks

The Matchup
The Wildcats return to action after a training trip in Deerfield, Fla., set to kick off the second half of the season by hosting the Duke Blue Devils and South Carolina Gamecocks at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Cannon Natatorium.
Scouting the Blue Devils
The Blue Devil swimming and diving squads last competed at the Georgia Tech Invite, where the women placed fourth and the men, fifth. Freshman Ashley Tisdale turned in the Devils' top time with third-place finish in the 1650 free with an NCAA "B" cut time.
Scouting the Gamecocks
The Gamecock men are 5-2 over the Blue Devils and 2-1-1 over the Wildcats. The women are 2-0 all-time against Duke and 1-0 advantage over Davidson. Last time out for the Gamecock swimmers was at the Alabama Invitational on Dec. 2, where seven swimmers combined for 14 NCAA qualifying times, and three achieved Olympic Trial qualifying marks, led by reigning SEC swimmer of the week sophomore Dominique Lendjei who qualified in the 100 and 200 back, 100 fly and 200 IM. Freshman Claire Thompson swam three NCAA "B" cuts (200, 500 and 1650 free) and two Olympic trial times.

The Wildcats will wrap up the home season with meets the next two weekends, hosting the Clemson Tigers at 6 p.m. on Jan. 17, and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks and Campbell Camels (w) on 1 p.m. on Jan. 26.
