Record-Setting Sanker Picks up Pair of Weekly SoCon Honors

DAVIDSON, N.C. — After setting a new Davidson College record with a first-place finish at the Asics/Winthrop Invitational over the weekend, junior Caroline Sanker has been named both Southern Conference Women's Runner of the Week and Student-Athlete of the Week for September 17.
Sanker's time of 17:12 in the 5K broke the record formerly held by senior Brenna Burns, a time of 17:39.33 from the 2006 Southern Conference Championships. The junior psychology major from Rocky River, Ohio, maintains a 3.81 GPA in the classroom.
Finishing ahead of all 70 runners at Winthrop, Sanker led the 'Cats to a first-place finish for the second consecutive year and bettered her own finish (3rd) and time (18:28) from last season at the event. The 'Cats earned just 24 points as a team and finished 15 points ahead of second-place South Carolina (39).
It is the first career honor for Sanker and the first this season for the Wildcats, who return to action next weekend at the Tiger Invitational in Auburn, Ala. on Saturday.
