DAVIDSON, N.C. - Freshman Sarabeth Peele didn't waste any time making a splash in the Southern Conference, picking up the season's first Player of the Week honor, for games played Aug. 24-28, after leading the Wildcats to a perfect 2-0 record in the opening weekend of play.
Peele led the 'Cats with a total of 31 kills and a .446 hitting percentage as Davidson opened the 2007 season on Friday with a pair of 3-0 wins over UNC Wilmington (30-22, 30-17, 30-28) and Radford (30-22, 30-24, 30-28) at UNC Greensboro. In her collegiate debut, she also added an assist, three aces, one block and 12 digs over six games.
Reaching double-digits in kills in each match, Peele tallied a match-high 15 against Wilmington and added a match-high 16 later in the day against Radford. She averaged 5.17 kills and two digs per game.
"This weekend was a great start to the season for our team," head coach Tim Cowie said. "It was also a great start to Sarabeth's career, and this is a great honor for her. There is a lot of work left to be done in the season, but I continue to look for great things from both Sarabeth and our entire team in 2007."
Davidson will open its home season, hosting James Madison, High Point and the University of Connecticut in the Mizuno Wildcat Classic at Belk Arena on Fri., Aug. 31 and Sat., Sept. 1. The 'Cats will take on James Madison on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, will host High Point at 12:30 p.m. and Connecticut at 7:30 p.m.
