DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson College head swimming coach John Young announced today that Nate Boyle has been hired as an assistant swimming coach for the Wildcats. An NCAA All-American, Boyle was a member of Auburn University's 1999 NCAA Championship Team, and he represented the United States as a National Team member at the Pan American Games that same year.
"We are working to establish Davidson as a viable destination for the fastest and brightest interscholastic swimmers in the nation," Young said. "To add a coach with so much exposure to high-level swimming performance is tremendous for our program. Nate has swam with, competed against and coached some of the best swimmers in the world."
Boyle received his B.A. in political science at Auburn and will soon complete the university's requirements for his masters in exercise science with a concentration in physiology. Prior to moving to Davidson, he served as National Team Physiology Coordinator for USA Swimming, supporting National Team coaches and athletes with lactate and race analysis programs.
"Nate's command of the science that underlies achievement in our sport will help us maximize the time our student-athletes spend at the pool, which is crucial in such a rigorous academic environment," Young said.
Prior to his time with USA Swimming, Boyle coached a group of professionals at Auburn Aquatics, including a 2004 Olympic gold medalist who became the third-fastest American in the 100-meter breaststroke. He has also served as an assistant coach at Auburn Aquatics and as the head age group coach of the Ashburn Swim Team in Ashburn, Va.
His accomplishments as an athlete also include two first-team All-SEC designations and Olympic Trials qualification standards in 2000 and 2004. Nate and his wife, Amanda, reside in Davidson.
Davidson is a highly selective independent liberal arts college for 1,700 students. Since its establishment in 1837 by Presbyterians, the college has graduated 23 Rhodes Scholars and is consistently ranked among the top liberal arts colleges in the country by U.S. News and World Report magazine.
Davidson is a founding member of the newly formed Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association.
