DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team could not halt the No. 42 Elon Phoenix perfect run through the Southern Conference as the Wildcats were swept in all nine matches, dropping a 7-0 decision on Wednesday, April 4 at Covington Tennis Courts. Davidson saw its record fall to 6-14 overall and 1-6 in SoCon action. The Phoenix ran its win streak to nine straight as it improved to 18-2 overall and finished league play at 9-0.
For only the third time all year, the Wildcats dropped all three doubles matches to start the afternoon off. The team of sophomore Ethan Jaffee and freshman Sam Burns registered three-game wins, but fell in the end by the count of 8-3 for the closest doubles match of the day.
Davidson had a 38-19 team doubles mark and were 10-8 in SoCon matches coming into the day.
No. 42 Elon then finished off the sweep with straight-set wins at all six singles spots to give Davidson its first shutout loss of the season.
Sophomore Scott Myers scored the most game wins, but still fell 6-4, 6-1, while senior John Bolton played SoCon Player of the Week, Anuwat Dalodom, tough before dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision.
