DAVIDSON, NC - Davidson volleyball's 2007 recruiting class has earned High Honorable Mention accolades from PrepVolleyball.com and ranks among the top 70 recruiting classes in the country. Davidson is one of 25 schools to receive PrepVolleyball.com's High Honorable Mention ranking.
After ranking the top 30 recruiting classes, PrepVolleyball.com lists the remaining schools, including Davidson, as Highest Honorable Mention, High Honorable Mention and Honorable Mention, naming 94 schools in total. Only two schools from the Southern Conference received mention in the rankings.
Davidson's class was ranked alongside formable volleyball schools Clemson, Connecticut, Florida State, Missouri, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and 2005 national champions, University of Washington.
"I was excited to hear that our 2007 recruiting class is viewed by our peers as one of the best in the country," head coach Tim Cowie said. "We were very happy to receive this special recognition from PrepVolleyball.com."
Davidson's recruiting class includes 6'1 middle blocker Jorden Benedict (San Antonio, Texas; St. Mary's Hall), 5'9 setter Anna Bradbury (Denver, Colo.; Littleton H.S.), 5'6 defensive specialist Jennifer Chamblee (Tampa, Fla.; Plant H.S.), 5'11 setter Hayley Lawson (Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Mira Costa H.S.) and 6'0 outside hitter Sarabeth Peele (San Antonio, Texas; Reagan H.S.).
"I knew from the outset, that our incoming freshman class was special," Cowie said. "Obviously we know that they will have a huge impact on the success of our program, but national recognition is an honor they have earned during their stellar high school and club careers."
Davidson finished the 2006 season with an 18-16 overall record and fourth in the SoCon with a record of 10-8. The Wildcats will open the 2007 season on August 24 at High Point University.
