DAVIDSON, N.C. – Junior Phillip Compeau (Wilkesboro, N.C.) of the Davidson College men's tennis team was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Second Team by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as announced today.
Compeau was part of the men's at-large ballot that included sports like men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's swimming, and golf. He joined Dimitar Dimitrov from Appalachian State as the only Southern Conference student-athletes to earn a nod on either the first or second teams.
The junior finished his third year as a Wildcat by leading Davidson to an 8-16 overall record and a trip to the quarterfinals of the SoCon Championships. Compeau was one of seven players for Davidson to see action in both singles and doubles this past spring. He fashioned a 3-5 overall singles mark, playing at both the No. 5 and 6 positions.
Compeau was one of the main players to see action in doubles play as he finished with a team-best 14 wins for a mark of 14-7 on the year at both the No. 2 and 3 positions. Of those 14 wins, 12 of them came at No. 3 in guiding the Wildcats to a 15-8 mark at that spot. Davidson as a team had an overall doubles record of 43-27, with the 43 wins ranking third most among the 10 SoCon teams. Compeau started out the 2007 season by teaming up with freshman Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) and winning his first seven doubles matches.
For his career, Compeau has six singles wins, while the doubles specialist has gone 23-17 the past two seasons in doubles play.
A 2006 All-SoCon All-Academic team member, Compeau has also excelled in the classroom. He has a GPA of 3.95 and is majoring in math.
