DURHAM, N.C. — Junior captain Brenna Burns finished sixth in the 5000 meters in an NCAA qualifying time of 16:51.35, as the Davidson Wildcat women's track and field team competed at the Duke Asics Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Burns is the first woman Wildcat runner to qualify for the NCAA regional meet this season, joining freshman Kristen Meister who qualified in the high jump at the Wake Forest Open with a mark of 1.75 meters.
"Obviously, I am thrilled for Brenna," head coach Jen Straub said. "It's another great accomplishment for her, and for our team as well!"
Sophomore Kennesia Martin set a new school record with a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.54 meters (37-10.50). Martin bested her own record in the event, a jump of 11.46 meters (37-7.25) from last season.
Meister finished fourth in the high jump with a jump of 1.70 meters, while junior Amaka Obidegwu finished ninth in the 400 meters (developmental) with a time of 59.39.
The women tracksters will return to action on April 13 at the Appalachian Spring Open.
