
Women's Tennis Breezes into SoCon Semis with 4-0 Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Davidson advanced to the 2007 Southern Conference semifnals with a 4-0 victory over sixth-seeded Georgia Southern in women's tennis action Friday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center on the campus of The Citadel. The win for the third-seeded Wildcats was their eighth straight over GSU as they improve to 18-6 overall, while the Eagles concludes their campaign 8-11.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 team advantage and improved to 18-0 on the year when claiming the doubles point. Juniors Kelsey Linville and Kim Whelan cruised by Georgia Southern's Molly Maddox and Christine Caforio, 8-1, before the Wildcats' Michele Fanney and Lora Dushanova needed just one more game to top Jessica Matlosz and Jessica Fuller at the third spot.
Linville, a first-team all-conference performer for the second consecutive season improved to 12-10 on the campaign and put Davidson just two wins away from capturing the dual with a straight-set triumph over Molly Maddox.
Davidson also got singles victories from Lora Dushanova, who defeated Shea Huxtable in straight sets, and Virginia Berry, who did the same to Heather Reynolds.
Looking to advance to its fourth SoCon Championsip in the last five years, Davidson will battle second-seeded College of Charleston in a 10 a.m. contest tomorrow at the Earle Tennis Center. The Cougars edged the 'Cats 4-3 in Davidson on April 1 with four of the six singles matches going three sets.
