DAVIDSON, N.C. - Track and field standout freshman Kristen Meister, who broke the Davidson record in the high jump with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 5-8.75 ft. at the Wake Forest Open this weekend, has been named co-Southern Conference Track Athlete of the Week.
Meister's fourth-place mark of 1.75 meters (5-8.75 ft.) in the high jump bested the school record of 1.70 meters (5-7 ft.) set by Venessa Sims in 1996. She is currently ranked first in the Southern Conference rankings in the event.
The Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year, Meister also holds the school record in the indoor high jump with a jump of 1.81 meters (5-11.25 ft.) at the Indoor SoCons.
Meister shares the honor with Western Carolina's Kerrie Savery, who ran 2:11.38 in the 800 meters and 4:43.22 in the 1500 meters along with a 56.9 split on the 4 x 400 relay. Savery is ranked first in the SoCon at 800 meters and the 4 x 400 and third in the 1500 meters.
The women's track and field team returns to action this Saturday at Charlotte.
