Wildcat Swimmers Finish Seventh at CAAs

FAIRFAX, Va. - Davidson men's and women's swimming and diving teams both finished in seventh place at the 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Championships as competition concluded on Saturday evening on the campus of George Mason.
On the final day of competition, sophomore Merritt Peele placed second in the 1650-meters with a time of 15:56.23, bringing his four-day points total up to 50 points, the seventh highest total among the men competitors.
Sophomore Alanna Ream finished in fifth in the 1650-meters with a time of 17:17.09 and eighth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.81. With 39 points, Ream finished the CAAs with the 16th greatest points total among the women swimmers.
The men's team finished with 271 points, while the women amassed 211. William and Mary claimed the conference championship on the women's side with 623 points, while UNC Wilmington took the honors for the men with 573 points.
In the last day's events, junior Will Broughton and sophomore Andrew Carson also competed for Davidson in the 1650-meters, finishing sixth and 25th, respectively.
Junior Adam Topaz touched the wall in seventh place in the 200 fly, turning in a time of 1:54.63, and senior Scott Foster placed eighth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.08.
In their final CAA appearances, senior Ellie Trefzger placed 11th in the 1650-meters with a time of 17:29.11, and classmate Dwight Swift earned points for the 'Cats with a score of 161.45 in the preliminaries on the three-meter springboard.
Sophomore Kate Graham clocked in at 2:09.87, finishing 14th in the consolation final in the 200 fly. In the final relay, the 400-free, Kirsten Allen, Madeline Parra, Brigit Barry and Martha Culp represented the Wildcat women with a tenth-place time of 3:37.16, while Peele, Jon Smith, Miguel Rodriguez and Brad Carman finished in 3:09.74 for ninth place.
