Peele Sets Another School Mark, Places Third in 200 Free on Day Three of CAAs

FAIRFAX, Va. - Sophomore Merritt Peele continued his record-breaking appearance at the 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, finishing third and setting a new Davidson record in the 200 free on day three of competition. After three full days, both the men and women's swimming and diving teams are in seventh place.
Peele, who set a new Davidson standard in the 500 free at yesterday's compeition, finished third with a time of 1:41.28, besting the record previously held by Robert Koch (1:41.58, Feb. 23, 2002).
Sophomore Scott Frantz and freshman Miller Williams also turned in top-five performances, while freshman Nate Ladner finished eighth in the 100 breast with a time of 58.43. Frantz was third in the 100 back with a time of 51.84, and Williams finished fifth in the 100 fly with a time of 51.39.
Junior Adam Topaz finished 11th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:07.71, and sophomore Andrew Carlson placed 16th in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.17, representing the Wildcat men in the consolation finals. Sophomore Miguel Rodriguez also earned points in the 100 fly, placing 15th with a time of 52.85 in the consolation final.
On the women's side, sophomore Courtney Sanders finished 11th in the 100 fly with a time of 58.10 in the consolation final.
Freshman Caroline Curtiss and junior Maddie Stough finished 12th and 13th with times of 1:08.26 and 1:09.05, respectively, in the consolational final for the 100 breast, and senior Brigit Barry placed 16th in the 100 back with a time of 59.95 in the consolation.
Sanders, Barry, freshman Martha Culp and junior Kirsten Allen finished eighth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:38.01, and Rodriguez, Brad Carman, Fiete Stegger and Jon Smith placed ninth in the event for the men with a time of 1:25.87.
Freshman Kelsey Chisholm placed fifth on the one-meter springboard with a mark of 237.00, while sophomore Stephannie McKinney and freshman Linnea Buttermore also earned points in the preliminaries.
William and Mary is leading the women's competition with 418 points, trailed by UNC Wilmington (405.5) and Towson (361). George Mason (358.5), Delaware (256) and Northeastern (186) are ahead of the Wildcat women.
UNC Wilmington leads on the men's side with 385 points, followed by James Madison (378) and George Mason (359). William and Mary (267), Towson (251) and Old Dominion (227) are ahead of the Wildcat men.
