DAVIDSON, N.C. — After putting together an oustanding meet at the Nike Invitational at Kenyon College, freshman Lindsey Martin and junior Scott Frantz have been named women's and men's CCSA Swimmers of the Week, as announced earlier today by the league office.
Martin became the second swimmer in Davidson history to earn an NCAA Championship B cut time with her performance in the 100 free, set a pair of school records (the 50 and 100 free) and swam crucial legs on three record-setting relays. Frantz, meanwhile, competed in a total of eight events at the Invite, contributing to three Davidson record-breaking relays while finishing second in the 100 back and re-establishing his school record, and sixth in the 200 back.
In her individual events, Martin turned in an NCAA Championship B cut, runner-up time (50.82) in the 100 free and also finished second in the 50 free (23.53). Both times were tops in program history and the league, where she remains the only CCSA swimmer to have broken the 24 second barrier in the 50 free.
Martin also swam on three record-setting relays over the three-day meet. She swam second on the 'Cats record-setting 800 free relay, which finished fourth (7:34.87) and broke the school record by three seconds, and also anchored the 200 free with the fastest split of all swimmers to a third-place finish (1:36.89) and the 400 free relay to a runner-up finish (3:30.69).
Frantz also had a solid meet both individually and as a relay team member. He earned Super Final appearances in both backstroke events, matching his school record in the 100 back with a runner-up finish (50.53). He also turned in a season-best time (21.60) in the 50 free and a time of 47.03 in the consolation final of the 100 free. His 46.64 preliminary swim in the latter is the CCSA's top time this season.
He also swam leadoff on three record-setting relays — the 200 freestyle, the 400 freestyle and the 200 medley relays and led off a fourth relay, the 400 medley, with a 100 backstroke split that lowered his college record. In seven of Frantz's eight events, he had a hand in a CCSA top time. In addition to the 100 freestyle, both his backstroke swims were the fastest the CCSA has seen this season, and all of his relay's recorded CCSA top times.
It is the second weekly honor for both Martin and Frantz. Martin was named CCSA Swimmer of the week for Oct. 15, after winning a pair of titles and setting a pair of records at the dual meet with Emory, while Frantz picked up the honor after winning a pair of titles against East Carolina.
