GREENSBORO, N.C. – Reigning SoCon Player of the Week Thomas Campbell recorded a hat trick to lead the host UNC Greensboro Spartans to a 4-2 victory over Davidson in men's soccer action Tuesday evening at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

The loss was the seventh straight for the 'Cats dropping them to 1-10-0 and 0-3-0 in league play, while UNCG moves to .500 in conference action at 2-2-0 and 6-4-2 on the slate.

Davidson wasted little time grabbing the early advantage as senior Tom Lavan hit a low line drive from 25 yards out that found the lower left corner of the goal just 47 seconds into the match. Fellow forward Machel Turner set up Lavan's first goal of the season and 13th of his career.

After tallying seven total points (3G, 1A) last week to earn the league's weekly honor, Campbell scored three consecutive and unanswered strikes in the 18th, 43rd and 55th minutes to give the Spartans a 3-1 lead.

UNC Greensboro's Tebatso Manyama added to his club's margin and put the match out of reach with his fourth score of 2007.

With just 6:30 remaining in the second period, Charlie Reiter closed out the scoring for Davidson. Liam Bracken's long cross found Reiter on the left side of the box where Reiter chipped the ball into the top of the goal after the keeper had come out. It was Rieter's first goal of the season.

The Spartans finished with a 20-14 advantage in shots, but trailed in corner kicks 4-2. Davidson's Robby Goldsberry turned away a game-high five shots, while Nate Berry stopped four between the pipes for UNCG.

Davidson returns to action Saturday in a 1 p.m. kickoff at SoCon foe Georgia Southern. The Spartans will also take the field again Oct. 13 as they host College of Charleston at 7 p.m.
