CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Davidson men's tennis team sent four players to the ITA Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend of Oct. 18-21 as they had two players qualify for the main draw and a doubles team earn a win in the main draw.
Freshman Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.) wrapped up his first collegiate fall season in impressive fashion by winning three straight matches in the qualifying singles draw, before dropping his first match in the main draw. Lyons started his weekend off with two three-set wins. He first defeated a player from Longwood, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the round of 64. There, he faced Pedro Graber of Virginia Tech and took another three-set win by the score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Lyons then qualified for the main singles draw by earning a 6-3, 6-0 win over Chase Helpingstine in the round of 16.
The freshman then had to turn around and play Dominic Pagon in the main draw where his fall season came to an end with a 7-6(1), 6-0 defeat.
The Wildcats number one player, senior Flaviu Simihaian (Nasaud, Romania), also represented the Wildcats in the main singles draw, but wasn't able to advance beyond the round of 128. He faced off against Yoann Roe of Canada and dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision.

In his first round match, he defeated Gabriel Groh in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, before seeing his fall season come to an end with a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Karl Wishart who was seeded ninth.
