SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Competing as an individual and making his collegiate debut, Ryan Crum carded an opening day 148 (73-75), while his club struggled with rounds of 311 and 309 to sit 15th through 36 holes of the 2007 Mizuno Southbridge Intercollegiate Monday. The 54-hole event is being played on the 6,922-yard, par 72 Southbridge Golf Club layout.
A freshman from South Salem, N.Y., Crum leads all Wildcats on the leaderboard, but Davidson is unable to use his scores towards the team total due to him competing as an individual, which is determined prior to the event.
Other Wildcat competitors include David Fowler (T40th / 149), Bobby Urso (T62nd / 155), Adam Lewicki (T69th / 159), Robert Mayo (T72nd / 160) and Chris Rollins (78th / 162).
Winthrop holds a comfortable nine stroke advantage in the team standings following a 36-hole total of 561 (281-280). The Eagles are one of four schools that finished day one under par with an impressive 15-under.
Leading all individuals is Winthrop's Kelly Manders who shot a 7-under 137 on the day. Manders holds a one stroke advantage over Georgia Southern's Logan Blondell and Matt Cook of Western Carolina and is two swings clear of his teammate Cipriano Ayala.
Tuesday's tee times are set to begin on holes 1 and 10 at 8 a.m.
