
Peele Leads 'Cats with 13 kills, but GSU Upends Davidson, 3-0

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Freshman Sarabeth Peele tallied a match-high 13 kills, but the Davidson Wildcats suffered a 3-0 (30-18, 30-18, 30-28) loss at Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon in SoCon volleyball action.
Junior middle blocker Kittery Neale was the only other player in the match with double-digit kills, posting 10 and hitting .318 on the day. With the loss the 'Cats fall to 6-16 overall and 1-8 in league play.
Georgia Southern (7-15, 4-6) used a balanced attack to down the 'Cats, getting nine kills from Gorana Bacic and seven from four hitters. Setter Mae Chabra recorded a double-double with a match-high 31 assists to go along with 10 digs.
The 'Cats found themselves in an early hole in the first two games, but nearly got a victory in the third to survive and advance. Davidson recorded 20 of its 27 kills in the game and hit a match-high .283 but was unable to put together the necessary run.
The score was knotted as late as 20-20 in the decisive game, but Georgia Southern won the next three points to force a Wildcat timeout. The 'Cats went on to survive a pair of match points, forcing the Eagles into a timeout, but a putaway from Michelle Uzoh lifted GSU to the win.
The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Wofford (8-13, 2-7) for a 6 p.m. match.
