Wildcats' Sanker Garners First Place at 11th Annual Hopebuilders 5K

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Junior Caroline Sanker picked up a time of 17:44 to take home top honors in the female division as the Davidson women's cross country team competed at the 11th Annual Hopebuilders 5K in downtown Charlotte on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Sanker came in fourth overall out of 502 registered racers on Saturday. Seven other Wildcat runners also had a nice showing at the 5K, each finishing in the top-60.
Senior Megal Atias and junior Kim Lang finished first and second in their own age group and 10th and 18th overall. Atias ran a 18:28, while Lang finished in 19:23. Freshman Sarah Cline finished 14th overall with a time of 19:19, right in between the pair.
Freshman Heather Conarroe was just five seconds off of Lang's time, coming in with a time of 19:28 and earning a 19th place finish. Freshman Danielle Ruggieri finished 21st overall with a time of 19:31.
Junior Stephanie Scott and freshman Sarah Frederick each finished in the top-45 with times of 20:59 and 21:01.
Freshman Kelly Davis rounded out the Wildcat roster who competed at the race as Davis earned a 5K time of 21:35 to finish 56th overall.
Davidson now looks to ready itself for the Southern Conference Championships, which will be held in Cullowhee, N.C. on Oct. 27. The Wildcats will be seeking to top last year's third place finish with its main competition coming from Chattanooga, who has won the championships five times.
