
Volleyball Seeks Momentum, Hosts Furman at 7 p.m. Tuesday

With both teams splitting a pair of conference matches over the weekend, the Davidson Wildcats host the Furman Paladins in Southern Conference volleyball action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Belk Arena.
The Matchup
Davidson (6-11, 1-3) hosts Furman (10-4, 3-1), sitting in fourth place in the SoCon after splitting a pair of road matches this weekend. The Paladins swept Elon, 3-0, on Friday, and lost in five games to UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon. Davidson also earned a split this weekend, falling 0-3 to league-leading CofC on Friday before taking a 3-1 win over The Citadel on Saturday afternoon at Belk.
The All-time Series
Furman leads the all-time series, 27-16, including a sweep of a pair of regular-season matches last season. The 'Cats were on the losing end of a 3-1 decision in Belk on Oct. 6 and fell 0-3 on the road on Nov. 5, 2006.
Scouting the Paladins
Alison West and Chibuzo Aguocha each have over 200 kills, combining for over 50% of the team's 801 kills. West leads the team with 206 kills, while Aguocha tallies 204.
As a team, Furman averages a .300 hitting percentage to lead the league, while holding their opponents to a second-best .138 clip. The Paladins also average a SoCon-leading 3.21 blocks per game, behind Nicole Palazzo, who leads the league with 1.86 blocks per game and her team with 86 total blocks. Palazzo also boasts the best hitting percentage in the conference at .448, followed by teammate Kerry Wooten's .377.
The Paladins went 19-11 overall and 15-3 in the SoCon, finishing second in the league last season. With a 10-4 record thus far in 2007, Furman has defeated Colorado (3-2), Florida Atlantic (3-1), Drake (3-2), UW-Green Bay (3-2), Clemson (3-2), Florida A&M (3-2), Georgia Southern (3-0), Gardner-Webb (3-0). In conference play, they have blanked both Wofford (3-0) and Elon (3-0). Furman's losses have come against Tulane (1-3), Purdue (0-3) and East Tennessee State (0-3), and its lone blemish in the league is a 2-3 loss at Greensboro. Michelle Young, in her eighth season at the helm, is 131-106 overall.
