DAVIDSON, N.C. — At Winthrop, the Wildcat women turned in five Top-10 finishes, including a first-place finish by junior co-captain Brenna Burns, to collect just 27 points and easily place ahead of second-place Charlotte, as well as SoCon rivals College of Charleston, Furman, UNC Greensboro and Wofford in the nine-team field.
Duke is ranked first in the Southeast region that boasts six teams also ranked in the national poll. The Blue Devils, who are ranked seventh nationally, are followed by N.C. State (12th), Virginia (26th), North Carolina (22th), Wake Forest (28th) and William & Mary (25th). Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Richmond and Davidson round out the Top 10 of the Southeast region.
“Our Top-10 regional ranking is a great testament to our front running,” head coach Jen Straub said. “We need to pull off a great end of the season to finish in the Top eight, but if we continue to shore up our 5-8 runners and show some depth, we could potentially have our best regional finish ever.”
Davidson returns to action this weekend, racing in the LeHigh Invitational on Fri., Sept. 29.
