ROCK HILL, S.C— Behind five top-10 finishes, the Davidson Wildcat women's cross country raced to a first place finish in the women's 5K event at the Winthrop/Asics Invitational on Saturday morning.
Junior co-captain Brenna Burns paced the field of 78 with a time of 18:23 to cross the line first.
While Burns placed first, the rest of the team made a strong showing as well. Sophomore Caroline Sanker finished third at 18:28, while Junior Megal Atias (18:51, 6th), sophomore Emily King (19:17, 8th), and sophomore Lucy Rogers (19:20, 9th) each finished in the top ten.
Davidson compiled 27 points to win the University Division easily, ahead of Charlotte, next in the nine-team field with 43 points. SoCon rival College of Charleston finished third, followed by Furman, Winthrop, UNC Greensboro, South Carolina, Wofford and South Carolina State.
The women return to action at the LeHigh Invitational on Sept. 29 in LeHigh, Pa.
