WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Led by sprinter Katurri Phillips and middle-distance runner Allie Martin, Davidson's women raced to several top-eight finishes at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday.
Phillips, a sophomore from Roswell, Ga., broke her own Wildcat record in the 200-meter dash with a third-place time of 25.94, bettering the standard of 26.25 she posted last weekend at North Carolina A&T. Following Phillips in fourth with a time of 26.26 was freshman Kim Colley. Both sprinters made their presence known in the 100 meters as well, with Phillips taking fifth in the event at 12.75 and Colley placing sixth at 12.79.
In the 800 meters, sophomore Colleen McKown and senior Hilary Leister claimed second and third, respectively, with McKown coming in at 2:19.90 and Leister at 2:21.20. Meanwhile, junior Jessica Chasen crossed the finish line third in the quarter-mile with a personal-best time of 59.7.
Martin showed her leadership by pacing the Wildcats with a third-place finish in the 3000-meter run, clocking a career-best time of 10:19.61. The co-captain also ran a 4:51.67 in the 1500 meters, good for fifth place. The team's youthful talent shine as freshmen Caroline Sanker, Emily King and Lucy Rogers finished fourth, fifth, and eighth, respectively, in the 3000 meters.
Next Saturday, April 1, the Davidson women are scheduled to compete at the Charlotte Invitational.
