DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson College has partnered with the Southern Conference and XOS Technologies to provide live video streaming over the internet of home athletic events for several sports during the 2006-07 school year. Video of each home women's basketball games, beginning with the Wildcats' home opener against UNC Asheville on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m., will be available through SoCon.TV, which can be accessed from the Davidson athletics web site. Simply navigate to the women's basketball web site and click on the SoCon.TV logo.
SoCon.TV will air not only Davidson home women's basketball games this year, but also Wildcat home events for men's basketball, football, volleyball and wrestling. Three tiers of subscription rates are available -- $5.95 per contest, $25.95 per semester (first through the end of December, second starting with the 2007 calendar year), and $44.95 for the entire school year.
Viewers will also be able to listen to the radio broadcast with Derek Smith doing the play-by-play, via TIMELINE on Davidson's web site, www.davidson.ed/athletics.
"We are very pleased to be able to deliver athletic competition and other content to our alumni, parents and fans through an integration of technologies," stated Davidson Athletics Director Jim Murphy. "This is an exciting opportunity to showcase Davidson College and its great students."
In addition, the Southern Conference will offer live video streaming of seven of its championship events, including the 2007 men's and women's basketball tournaments, and numerous regular-season competitions from around the league.
Entering their sixth year under the direction of head coach Annette Watts, the Davidson women's basketball team started its 2006-07 season with a 91-65 exhibition win over Lander University on Thursday evening. Redshirt junior Katie Hamilton (Lilburn, Ga.) returned to the court for the first time since March of 2005 and turned in a double-double, 15 points and 12 rebounds, in leading the Wildcats. Three other 'Cats also reached double-figures and Davidson scored 50 of its 91 points in the paint.
The Wildcats return four of last season's five starters, including seniors Brynn Kelly (Spokane, Wash.), Tia Washington (Charlotte, N.C.), and All-SoCon performer Jessica Mitchell (Wilkesboro, N.C.), who averaged nearly 12 points and hit 36 percent of her three pointers last year. In all, Davidson returns nine letterwinners from a year ago, plus the additions of freshmen Monica Laune (Ashland, Neb.), Julia Paquette (Stockbridge, Ga.) and Alexandra Thompson (Asheville, N.C.).
The UNC Asheville Bulldogs, a member of the Big South, are coming off a 15-13 campaign for their third straight winning season under the guidance of head coach Betsy Blose. The Bulldogs welcome back four starters from last year's team and nine letterwinners in all.
The home season-opener for Davidson against UNC Asheville is the Wildcats first since the 1993-94 campaign, when they opened up against Mars Hill. This will also be the first meeting between the two schools since 1993 when the Bulldogs took a 76-61 win at home against the Wildcats.
