Dave Calvert

Dave Calvert is currently in his third year at Davidson as an assistant coach in Jumps, Hurdles, Combined, and Throws. He holds USATF Level 1 Certifications (Throws, Combined, Jumps, Sprint/Hurdles, Distance) and USATF Level 2 certifications in Sprints/Hurdles, Jumps, Combined and USCCCTFA Level 2 certification in Throws. He also is a USACCCTFA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Coach Calvert is a USATF Certified Official with experiences including officiating D2 NCAA National Championships and the USA National Junior Olympic Championship.
Previous coaching experience includes 30 years as a high school coach. He was the 2017 NCISAA 2A Track and Field Coach of the Year. In addition to coaching numerous individual state champions his team also won the 2017 NC State Championship. He began the Strength and Conditioning program at CFA Academy. Coach C also taught as a Science teacher and served as a high school principal (and still coached). He was selected as the 2015 Youth Commission International National Teacher of the Year.
As a college athlete Coach C competed in football, track, and cross country. As a high school athlete he competed in football and soccer. His football team won the Florida State Championship (14-0) and he played on USA All-star soccer team competing in the Pan Am games.
Coach C coached numerous high school athletes that continued their athletic careers on the collegiate level, not only in cross country and track/field but also soccer. Coach C has and continues to coach post collegiate athletes as well.
Personal: Coach Calvert has been married for 28 years to Jennifer Calvert, an avid runner, former Wake forest athlete, and current counselor at Cannon School in Concord, NC. Their daughter, Cassie Calvert, a National Merit Scholar who graduated from Duke University, competed in the Boston Marathon and is the Baltimore Ravens Social Media Coordinator. Coach Calvert is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the North Metro Area FCA.
