Cheatwood Leads Wildcats on Day One of Fall Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Griffin Cheatwood fired a five-under 67 in his first collegiate round to highlight day one of competition for the Davidson men's golf team at the Bryan National Collegiate hosted by UNCG.
A freshman from Charlotte, Cheatwood sits at five-under in a tie for third after 36 holes of play. His opening round featured five birdies and two eagles before posting an even-par 72 in the afternoon.
The Charlotte Latin product will enter tomorrow's final round five off the lead, held by the Spartans' Kelvin Hernandez (-10), who is one clear of his teammate BJ Boyce (-9).
Clayton Couey (-1) also got off to a solid start for the Wildcats with rounds of 72 and 71, putting him in a tie for 17th out of 84 competitors.
Davidson (+1) is in fifth place, with just six shots separating it and second-place William & Mary (-5).
UNCG has a commanding 14 stroke advantage over the 13-team field.
Nate Faulkner (+1), Davis Sayman (+6) and Owen Jessop (+9) are also in the Wildcats' lineup, while Alexander Paschall (+3) is competing as an individual.
Tomorrow's third and final round will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
