Sayman T-2nd after Opening Round of 48th Macdonald Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Davidson's Davis Sayman signed for an even par 70 Friday afternoon to sit tied for second after the opening round of the 48th Macdonald Cup hosted by Yale.
Coming off a Top-15 finish and final round total of one-under 71 in the Wildcats' home event earlier this week, Sayman carded three birdies and three bogeys, while players battled nor'easter conditions on the 6,669-yard, Par 70 Yale Golf Course layout.
The Davidson senior is just two behind Harvard's Alex Zhang (-2), who had the day's only sub-par round out of 68 competitors.
Originally scheduled for 36 holes Saturday followed by the final round Sunday, tournament officials adjusted the weekend schedule to a Friday afternoon start due to the impending forecast in the northeast.
Despite a sluggish start, the Wildcats climbed the leaderboard late in the day and will enter tomorrow's second round tied for fifth, eight shots out of second.
Clayton Couey (T-6th) also sits inside the Top-10 for Davidson.
Harvard holds the top spot on the team leaderboard at 9-over followed by Seton Hall (+15), Dartmouth (+17) and Columbia (+22).
Saturday's second round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
