BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Fifteen event wins and a sweep of the team victories highlighted the Davidson swimming and diving teams' trip to Gardner-Webb Friday evening.
The Wildcats earned a 138-123 win in the men's meet and a 134-124 victory on the women's side. The meet was originally scheduled for Saturday, but with snow in the forecast across the region overnight, it was moved up to Friday night.
"Really exciting meets tonight," said Davidson coach John Young. "I'm glad we managed to get them in. It was a big meet for the distance crew. Dylan Felt led the way, but Frances Bohner and Ginny Thorsen and Henry Shoemaker and Davis Moore all grabbed clutch points."
Felt touched first in three events, including the 100 free (44.60), 500 free (4:30.15) and 1,000 free (9:04.28). And he joined Liam McDonough, Mitch McClain and Phelim Crowley on the winning 200 free relay (1:22.46).
McDonough added a win in the 100 back (49.37), while Crowley swam first in the 100 fly (48.86). Robby Votta (200 fly, 1:50.12) and Matthew Shnowske (200 free, 1:41.25) posted victories as well.
For the Davidson women, Ann Thompson and Thorsen won two events apiece to lead the way. Thompson swam out front in the 100 back (56.75) and 200 back (2:03.62), while Thorsen won the 200 fly (2:07.89) and the 500 free (5:10.60). Other wins came from Bohner (1,000 free, 10:27.26), Addison Constantinides (200 free, 1:54.04) and the 200 medley relay team of Thompson, Lizzie Palmer, McKenna Smith and Caroline Furbay (1:44.89).
