Canon Earns A-10 Player of the Week Honor

WASHINGTON — After hitting .733 during a 3-1 week, Davidson's Cider Canon has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The honor is the first for Canon, a sophomore outfielder from San Marino, Calif.
"Cider has been excellent this season," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "He's battled to have an outstanding season. We missed him early in the year, and he's helped us so much on both sides of the ball. He's been a great player and has a bright future."
Canon was 11-for-15 at the plate during the week, which included a non-conference win over North Carolina A&T and a 2-1 series win over A-10 foe George Washington.
He posted a 1.943 OPS, including a 1.133 slugging percentage, and compiled three doubles, a home run, eight RBIs and seven runs scored. He also drew five walks.
Canon is the A-10 leader with an .805 slugging percentage and a 1.294 OPS and is batting .403 (4th) with 15 home runs (3rd) and 47 RBIs.
Canon and the Wildcats will host George Mason in Atlantic 10 play May 9-11.
