Wildcats Lead After Day One of A-10 Championships
4/22/2025 3:03:00 PM | Men's Golf
ORLANDO, Fla. – Nate Faulkner carded a season-low three-under 69 and Davis Sayman shook off a slow start with five straight birdies on the back nine en route to a 71 to give Davidson the lead after day one of the 2025 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship.
The three-day / 54-hole event is being played at Evermore Resort.
The Wildcats (-3 | 285), who have won four of the last six conference titles, sat fifth midway through the opening round before retaking the lead with a combined eight birdies early on the back side.
Rhode Island (-2) is one back of Davidson followed by Dayton (E), Richmond (+1) and VCU (+2).
A freshman from Roanoke, Va., Faulkner's day consisted of four birdies, including two consecutive to begin his round, and just one bogey. He currently sits alone in second place just one behind Richmond's Carson Baez (-4).
Sayman, who's day was much more eventful, including a stretch of three straight double bogeys to fall to four-over after eight, is tied for fifth, three off the lead. After making the turn in 40, the sophomore started the back with five consecutive birdies to get back into red figures, while posting a 31 on his inward nine.
Joshua Stewart (T-15), who entered with the league's lowest stroke average, signed for an even-par 72, while Will Davis posted a 73. Davis got to two under late in his round before dropping a few shots down the stretch.
Wednesday's second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. off the first and 10th tees. Davidson, which will be paired with Rhode Island and Dayton, begins at 8:15 a.m.
