WASHINGTON - For the second time this season, Davidson men's tennis freshman Gregorio Hidalgo has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week following a strong weekend performance, the league office announced Tuesday.Â
The freshman was an undefeated 2-0 in singles competition with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over The Citadel and 6-4, 6-3 triumph against Charleston both from the No. 3 position. The Madrid, Spain native was the lone Wildcat to score a point against the Cougars to round out the weekend. In doubles, Hidalgo teamed up with senior Nico Pinzon to take a 6-3 No. 2 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday to split the weekend 1-1.Â
Hidalgo has now earned his second weekly honor after being named the A-10 Rookie of the Week in the opening portion of the season. For the season, the rookie is a roster-best 13-3 in singles action including an impressive 7-3 mark at No. 2, an undefeated 5-0 record at No. 3 and one win at the No. 1 position. In doubles, Hidalgo has played only with Pinzon and the pair have earned a team-high 10-5 record including a 5-5 mark at No. 1 and 5-0 sheet at No. 2.Â
Davidson will close the book on the 2025 regular season with its final match against league opponent Richmond 1 p.m. Apr. 19 on the road before entering A-10 Tournament play from Apr. 23-26 in Orlando, Fla.Â
