WASHINGTON — After striking out 15 batters in Friday's start, Davidson right-hander Wilson Perkins has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
It's his first honor this season and the second of the career for the redshirt-junior from Niceville, Fla.
"Perk was awesome this weekend," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "That was as good as I've seen him. He's done a wonderful job in his time here, giving his best effort and giving us a chance to have a good weekend."
In the 6-0 series-opening win over Saint Louis, Perkins threw eight innings and allowed two singles, while coming within two strikeouts of the program's single-game record and nearly doubling his previous career-best of eight strikeouts. He struck out the side in the sixth inning, fanned two batters in the first, second, fourth, fifth and eighth and struck out one in the third and seventh.
He also helped deliver Davidson's first shutout since 2022.
On Saturday, Perkins was also recognized with D1 Baseball's "Mid-Major Loud! Performance of the Day."
Perkins and the Wildcats will visit Winthrop in non-conference play Tuesday.
