WASHINGTON — After homering four times and driving in 14 runs in a four-game week, Davidson's Michael O'Shaughnessy has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
It's the first honor of the season for the junior infielder from Delmar, N.Y., and he's the second Wildcat to receive the honor, following Eli Putnam's selection on March 24.
In a 2-2 week, O'Shaughnessy hit .684 (13-for-19) with four doubles, four homers and 14 RBIs. He posted a 2.265 OPS, including a 1.526 slugging percentage.
"Shaggy had an outstanding week and has been great throughout the year," said coach Rucker Taylor. "He's put a lot into this season, and it's great to see him be recognized for his achievements."
O'Shaughnessy had a career-best performance in Saturday's A-10 series finale at Dayton and threatened single-game school records with three home runs and nine RBIs, finishing one off the program mark in each category. His 5-for-6 day also included two doubles.
O'Shaughnessy opened the Dayton series with a 4-for-5 performance, including a double, home run and five RBIs, and he was 3-for-6 in a midweek win over Gardner-Webb.
O'Shaughnessy and the Wildcats will visit Duke on Tuesday.
