Wildcats Welcome UMass to Open A-10 Play

Atlantic 10 Conference play begins this weekend when the Davidson baseball team hosts UMass in a three-game set at Wilson Field.
It's the first of 10 league series, as the A-10 shifts this season from eight series to a 30-game slate.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is 4-11 after a 12-0 loss to Charlotte on Wednesday night. The Wildcats have dropped five in a row.
• The Wildcats are seeking their second series victory of the season, after winning two of three games against Lafayette (Feb. 28-March 2). Davidson also split a season-opening doubleheader with Bryant (Feb. 14).
• Freshman right-handed pitcher Jacob Vokal was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after starting road games against South Carolina and Clemson last week. In six innings (3 IP per outing), he allowed three hits and one earned run and struck out three.
• Freshman center fielder Jamie Daly leads the Wildcats with a .364 average, a 1.218 OPS, five doubles, three home runs, 13 RBIs and 32 total bases.
• Senior shortstop Jack Cotrone has also hit three home runs. He's second on the team with a .313 average, a 1.015 OPS and 12 RBIs.
• Junior infielder Michael O'Shaughnessy and sophomore outfielder Cider Canon have hit two home runs apiece.
SCOUTING UMASS
• The Minutemen, picked 10th in the league's preseason poll, are 5-5-1 after most recently splitting four games at Navy last weekend and having their midweek contest with Holy Cross canceled.
• UMass tied Quinnipiac 7-7 on March 4 due to darkness.
• Infielder Anthony Tirado leads the offense with a .387 average and nine stolen bases to go with a 1.131 OPS, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs.
• Outfielder Carter Hanson is hitting .333, also with a 1.131 OPS, along with three doubles, four home runs and 13 RBIs.
• Pitcher Callen Powers has a 1.80 ERA in 15.0 innings, while reliever Andrew Middleton has an 0.00 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 9.1 innings.
