INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Davidson's Charlise Dunn and Ines Garcia Monje have been named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and Tamika Catchings Award preseason watch list, respectively, as announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Tuesday.
A senior guard from Victoria, Australia, Dunn was recently named to the Atlantic 10 preseason all-conference and all-defensive teams. A year ago, the 6-2 guard led the 'Cats in nearly every offensive category, while averaging 12.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She also led the team in steals per game (1.6) and defensive rebounds (128) to go along with ranking third in the conference with 1.2 blocks per game.
Garcia Monje, a freshman from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, led Spain to the FIBA U18 European Championship Gold medal this past summer.
In Davidson's season opener at Mississippi State, Dunn and Garcia Monje led the 'Cats will 11 points each.
The Wildcats host William & Mary Thursday evening in their home opener at 7 p.m.
About the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award
The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is presented annually to the women's national player of the year by the USBWA. Named for the legendary UCLA guard, the award was first presented in the 1987-88 season and formally named in Meyers Drysdale's honor in the 2011-12 season. Ann Meyers Drysdale played at UCLA from 1974-78, which pre-dates the USBWA All-America selections. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
About the Tamika Catchings Award
The USBWA has named a national freshman player of the year since the 1991-92 season. In the 2020-21 season the award was named for Tamika Catchings, the legendary Tennessee star who was a three-time USBWA All-American and the association's national freshman player of the year in the 1997-98 season.
