CHARLESTON, S.C. — Josh Scovens scored a team-high 12 points to lead Davidson past Boston College 59-49 Friday afternoon in the Lowcountry Bracket of the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic at TD Arena.
With the victory over the ACC's Eagles, the Wildcats improved to 5-0 for the first time in a decade and advanced to meet Utah State in Sunday's 9 p.m. final.
A bucket by Sean Logan in the final minute of the first half gave the Wildcats a 33-31 lead at the break after a back-and-forth first 20 minutes that featured five ties and nine lead changes. Davidson led the rest of the way, pushing its lead to as many as 12 points in the second half.
A 7-0 run midway through the second half — consisting of two Scovens free throws and back-to-back Devin Brown baskets — extended the Wildcats' lead to double-digits, 51-41, for the first time.
Scovens' 12-point effort is his best in a Davidson uniform. Brown finished with nine points, while Sean Logan, Nick Coval and Roberts Blums added six apiece on a day when 10 Wildcats scored.
Boston College (3-3) was led by Donald Hand Jr., who scored 14, while Jayden Hastings had a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
